DAYS OF HEAVEN is perhaps the most gorgeously photographed film I've seen. It was Terrence Malick's second film and his last before a 20-year hiatus. Though the storyline about a love triangle in the Texas wheat fields around the time of World War I is meager, it is the camera work of Nestor Almendros and the music by Ennio Morricone that mesmerizes.
Trust me on this - a must see if you love lyrical, moody storytelling: A young Richard Gere doing his seductive best, Brooke Adams as his smoldering girlfriend, Linda Manz as the gritty 12-year-old sister and Sam Shepard as the mysterious landowner. Manz is the one narrating the tale in a memorable gravelly voiceover you will not forget.
