Seventy-seven needy Concord families got the fixins for Thanksgiving today thanks to donations made through the city's human services department.

The turkeys, stuffing, fruit, veggies and other supplies came thanks to two major donors. ASA Sanel has long donated baskets full of Thanksgiving supplies. This year, the company's employees donated enough goodies to fill 52 such baskets with potatoes, squash, rolls, pies, cranberry sauce and other Thanksgiving ingredients. The company's president, George Segal, gives a turkey for each basket, and other company employees coordinate to donate the rest.

"These are heavy baskets," said Jackie Watmough, the city's human services director, who said most have at least 20 items inside.

City residents also benefited from turkey donations from Chuck Angwin, who began saving to buy turkeys for those in need eight years ago, when he was still a student at Bishop Brady High School. According to Watmough, Angwin has continued to give turkeys each year. This year, it was a total of 25.

The baskets and turkeys were distributed to families working with the city welfare department. Watmough thanked the donors for their help in brightening the holidays of needy families.

"They're so good to do this, and we appreciate it," she said. "It's fun for us to be able to give."
