You can help Santa Claus

November 27, 2009 - 7:25 am

The state employees' Association's Operation Santa Claus could still use some help.

The holiday charity, in its 49th year, gathers gifts to distribute to needy children and families across New Hampshire who have been identified by state caseworkers. This year, for the first time, about 40 families of recently-laid-off state workers will also get gifts.

Terri Wright, education and training coordinator for the SEA, said that out of about 3,000 children, approximately 100 still need gifts. Anyone who volunteers will be assigned a child, and will be given information about the child's age, clothing size and special requests. The minimum amount spent should be $60.

Wright said the most popular gifts requested this year include bikes and Pokeman and Bakugun items. Volunteers are also wanted to wrap gifts and help with logistics.

To volunteer, call Wright at 271-3411 x108 or e-mail twright@seiu1984.org.
