Science should come before medical marketing
By Cost of equipment borne by patients
A recent Sunday Monitor article featured a "new" approach to total hip replacement surgery using an anterior incision ("Cutting into recovery time, front page, Nov. 15). The article is unfortunately representative of the new trend in medicine where the marketing of procedures is ahead of scientific study.

Lies and deceit from neo-conservatives
By John S. Hancock, Concord
The brutal murder of 13 people at Fort Hood was immediately condemned by Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan's own family and by Muslims throughout the United States. This didn't prevent prominent right-wingers like Pat Robertson, Sean Hannity, Jonah Goldberg, Charles Krauthammer and many others from demagoguing the tragedy.

What next for Precision workers?
By Allison Caldwell, Pembroke
Well it would seem the auction of the Precision Technology company assets has come to pass. Trailers are seen most every day leaving with bindery gear of all types. I assume the state of New Hampshire is managing the funds acquired from the auction. Now I wonder if any of those assets acquired will be put into a fund to benefit us shutout former employees of Precision.

Outrageous
By Jonathan K. Shute, Sackville, New Brunswick, Canada
Re "Obama's plans are unconstitutional" (Monitor letter, Nov. 18):

Coming soon: bagged leaf pickup
By Katy Burpee, Concord
Two recent letter writers complained about the city's cutback on yard waste collection. This is just to let them and others who may have missed your Oct. 23 article ("Leaf vacuum's coming Monday") and the postcards sent to Concord homeowners in the middle of October know that the city will be picking up bagged leaves the week of Dec. 7 -11 on the same day as your normal trash and recycling pickup.

This Thanksgiving, try veggies instead
By Barbara Bonsignore, Concord
The 300 million Thanksgiving turkeys bred for slaughter in the United States have absolutely nothing to be thankful for. They are forced to live for months with 5,000 or more birds tightly packed in sheds where they have 3 square feet each, making it impossible to flap a wing or stretch a leg. They stand mired in their own wastes, the ammonia fumes from urine burning their eyes and lungs.

Hodes, Shea-Porter did the right thing
By Ken Roos, Concord
At his Friday night appearance in Concord, Minority Leader John Boehner said he thinks Americans are outraged about health reform and that when the American people speak up, Washington listens.

Unfair to patients, families, community
By Elaine S. Pinkham, Hopkinton
Thank you for your Nov. 15 editorial, ''Mental health system needs help - and fast." I ask our citizens: Where is the outrage?
