'Neither rain, nor sleet, nor snow . . ." We normally associate this quote with our dependable postman. After Barack Obama's speech in Chester, Pa., last week, we may associate this quote to him and his presidency, if elected!
The contrasts between the Obama and McCain campaigns were stark. Obama was ready, willing and able to stand in bad weather to face voters. To me that showed real leadership. "A little bit of rain never hurt anybody," he quipped to the 9,000 who showed up in ponchos, futilely holding umbrellas. The image of Obama dressed in jeans, black jacket, with no hat, and dripping wet was profound. It accentuated his passion as he inspired the crowd with his message of change.
John McCain cancelled his event in Quakertown, Pa., due to the rain. Doesn't he need the votes in this crucial battleground state? His non-appearance shows how he'd handle things when the going gets tough. The weather is not always sunny and nice in the presidency, Senator McCain.
We are at a critical moment in our nation's history. The problems are huge and can only be solved if we unite as a country. Obama can unite us as a people and will be a historic leader for this country and the world. Come Election Day, when Obama wins, we all win.

Nashua-Mike acts as if he 'owns' this message board. The last time I checked, the Monitor was the authority in this forum.
Originally, I enjoyed reading your posts as they were very thoughtful and matter of fact. Your posts are getting more prolific and your tone is rude of late.
We know that you complain about others on the board, Mike, in an attempt to get their posts removed. My suggestion is that if you do not want to hear the views of others and are not able to handle diversity of opinion that you start a board of your own.
As was posted on another board, one writer put it this way (paraphrased): "Start your own blog if you are so intent on only reading opinions that mirror your own........"
Sounds like good advice to me. Mike, not everyone thinks in your terms. How about a little "tolerance" and allowance that they too might have a point! And maybe they are correct some of the time and you might be wrong.
speedy,
I disagree with you only many issues, but I do appreciate your remarks that race should never be an issue in the Republican, or any other party.
Unfortunately too many McCain supporters have made race and religious intolerance an issue in this race, much to determent of the Republican Party and our national dialogue, in general.
Hopefully we will see more cooler heads, such as yourself, that will examine why racial politics seems to be the trump card that seem to come mainly from the Republican party camp.
I suspect once the cooler heads are able to take charge of the Republican Party that people who have drifted into the Democratic camp may see the Republican Party as a welcoming place.
Wow, Obama proves his patriotism by standing in the rain and making everyone else stand in the rain just to listen to the gems that spew forth from his golden tongue.
That sure demonstrates character better than being tortured for 5 1/2 years in the Hanoi Hilton (even though he was offered freedom after 6 months).
Ron, glad to see you have your priorities straight!
It should read if race is part of armyvet's criteria then he not welcome in the Republican party!
One of your posts says "typical white person" practice what you preach. Armyvet, I would be honored to have Michael Steele or Condee Rice in the oval office. If you don't share that sentiment then the Republican party are NOT welome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
armyvet,
"New Black House"?
Clean up your act!
We do not need such racists comments on this board!
We needed the opinion of another rich Democrat
an umbrella in every pot!
Remember, Ron, as with all politicians, they become slippery when wet, just like the Jerk's "carnie" girl friend.

Ron, long gone are the days where that motto applies! I think the term "gone Postal" is more appropriate. The U.S. postal service is a monument to the Government being unable to compete with private enterprise. If you really want something to get someplace reliably you use Fedex or UPS. Of course Obama wants to use that same Government mentality to control every area of our lives. At least McCain has the common sense to come out from the rain!

the wheels on his walker would get rusty and he wouldn't be able to get to the next event!
Jokes aside - the reason McCain is losing (besides really bad judgement) is that he took much of the summer off to rest and until very recently he was taking off weekends to rest - he doesn't have the stamina to be president and I would hate to see what would happen if a tired and cranky McCain got that 3 AM phone call!
Message of change? How do you know what change he will make? He keeps changing his message.
Sorry Ron,
Obama can not unite us and Obama will not unite us. He will claim a mandate and install a society where wealth is redistributed as well as misery.
Yesterday, Obama said that many of us want to make a "virtue out of selfishness". Obama's answer to Joe the Plumber was categorically and accurately described by the McCain campaign as 'socialism' and let's make it the small "s" version.
Obama has explained that all citizens earning under $250,000 would receive a tax break, then it was $200,000, then Biden told us it would be under $150,000 and then yesterday Bill Richardson let the cat out of the bag an revealed a number of $120,000. Which is it?
Do I need a tax cut right now, of say $500 (big deal anyway)....NO! But I can tell you that I do not need a tax increase either. Somehow, over the years, government has felt entitled to our hard earned labor to fund many things. Yes, we should fund the highways, mail, defense but to think that we need to take money from one person to give it to another is truly a perversion of our free society.
Here is a prediction. If he is elected, after a couple of months he will come to the American people and say something like this: "The economy is so much worse than I expected, we will have to forego a tax cut and we will raise taxes on wages over $100,000." Mark my words.
Call me "selfish" because I work two jobs to make ends meet a have a little more. Call me "selfish" because I believe that if you are able bodied and should take care of yourself if you can instead of asking for a handout.
Call me "selfish" because I believe that Illegal immigrants should be deported rather than rewarded with health insurance coverage.
Call me "selfish" because I believe that just because people do not want to pay for their health care that I do not want to either.
On the last point, I would love to help out a person who can not "afford" health care but ask yourself this:
How many wide screen TV's, iPods, Game Boys, new car loans, $150 sneakers, TIVO's, pairs of $75 jeans are in that household that complains about not being able to afford health care or how many times per year does a member of that household have their nails professionally done or hair done???????
It would be surprising to find that out. Many people would be surprised that if you add up all of the "choices" and measure those against "priorities" of the way people spend their money, they could easily afford healthy care.
Government is not a charitable organization it was designed to provide organized security and ensure liberty, staying out of way, allowing us to pursue that life, liberty and pursuit of happiness that all of us desire. Instead, Obama wants to build a toll booth on the road to success and improving our overall economic standing as families will be greatly curtailed.
If a person can not fend for themselves then we all need to chip in to help out and provide the kind of assistance that allows them to have pride in themselves and self respect and dignity.
However, looking at about half of the population complaining that they can not "afford" health care one starts to wonder if it is not being able to "afford" it or are "reluctant" to do so.
Mr. Litalien, about half of the population feel this way. We want to take care of our own families first. Obama has called us "selfish". He calls those who achieve and excel through their sweat and hard work as "greedy". He is misleading people by promising them a tax cut while knowing it will not happen.
The only way that Obama can be a "uniter" is if he rules from the middle. How many Republicans will be in his administration? NONE. How many moderate Supreme Court appointees will he have? NONE
You can't rule from the middle if you are a believer in the far Left. There will be no unification because Bush could not do it from the far right and Obama can not do it from the far left!
Beyond that, for economy to flourish, we can not restrict wealth, capital or freedom that rewards hard work. Obama has none of qualities that will make him a "uniter"
