'Neither rain, nor sleet, nor snow . . ." We normally associate this quote with our dependable postman. After Barack Obama's speech in Chester, Pa., last week, we may associate this quote to him and his presidency, if elected!
The contrasts between the Obama and McCain campaigns were stark. Obama was ready, willing and able to stand in bad weather to face voters. To me that showed real leadership. "A little bit of rain never hurt anybody," he quipped to the 9,000 who showed up in ponchos, futilely holding umbrellas. The image of Obama dressed in jeans, black jacket, with no hat, and dripping wet was profound. It accentuated his passion as he inspired the crowd with his message of change.
John McCain cancelled his event in Quakertown, Pa., due to the rain. Doesn't he need the votes in this crucial battleground state? His non-appearance shows how he'd handle things when the going gets tough. The weather is not always sunny and nice in the presidency, Senator McCain.
We are at a critical moment in our nation's history. The problems are huge and can only be solved if we unite as a country. Obama can unite us as a people and will be a historic leader for this country and the world. Come Election Day, when Obama wins, we all win.
