The Concord police were still setting up their sobriety checkpoint Friday night when an impaired driver drove over several of their orange traffic cones, the police said.
The police and the Merrimack County DUI Task Force staged the checkpoint on Loudon Road at the base of Gully Hill. They were setting up the cones about 10 p.m. when the driver ran the cones over, according to a press release. That person was charged with driving while impaired.
The police arrested five people at the checkpoint. Three were charged with driving while intoxicated. Other charges included possession of a controlled drug, transportation of a controlled drug and open container in a motor vehicle, according to the press release.
One vehicle stop resulted in several charges, said Sgt. Cori Casey. The underage driver was charged with driving while impaired, possession of alcohol by a minor and possession of a controlled drug. One passenger was charged with possession of a controlled drug. A second passenger, a minor, was taken into protective custody, Casey said.
