The manager at the lone paper mill in the state's North Country says the mill will shut down.
Willis Blevens said yesterday the machines will be shut down this morning and the workers will be out of the Gorham mill by midnight.
The development comes after Fraser Papers, the company running the mill, ended an agreement last month to sell the business. It said it would close indefinitely on or about Oct. 13 if a buyer wasn't found, putting most of the 240 workers out of work.
Blevens said 26 people will be staying on for now to assist with human resources, insurance and other duties.
He says a new court date - Oct. 21 - has been scheduled for prospective buyers to make a bid for the business.
