NCAA chief still supports BCS playoff

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - NCAA President Mark Emmert is reiterating his support of a two-round, four-team BCS playoff to determine a national football champion.

Emmert said yesterday that there are ongoing discussions about what he described as a Final Four model, a scenario which would've matched LSU against Stanford and Alabama versus Oklahoma State this season with the winners advancing to the title game. Alabama defeated LSU, 21-0, to avenge its lone loss and win the championship.

Emmert says any change must be determined by the BCS members and not the NCAA. And while he's okay with a Final Four concept, Emmert opposes a 16-team or larger playoff scenario which he believes would add stress on athletes and universities.

Emmert is also concerned about expansion, saying it has created "a lot of bad blood."
