LAUSANNE, Switzerland - The compulsory dance has been dropped from figure skating by the International Skating Union.
The ISU has revamped the format of ice dance to a Short Dance and a Free Dance. Previously, there were three segments: Compulsory Dance, Original Dance and Free Dance.
At its congress, the ISU also re-elected Ottavio Cinquanta as president. Vice presidents will be David Dore of Canada and Jan Dijkema of the Netherlands. Alexander Lakernik of Russia is the chairman of the singles and pairs technical committee. Halina Gordon-Poltorak of Poland is chair of the ice dance technical committee.
The congress voted to implement a qualifying procedure to reduce the number of skaters at the World Figure Skating Championships, and to limit the number of competitors in the free skate.
