The Monitor is seeking energetic, aspiring photojournalists to apply for our paid internships. Current students and recent graduates are eligible. The Monitor staff has won many national awards, including NPPA and POY awards for "Best Use of Photos", "One Week's Work", "Feature Photo", "News Story", campaign coverage and picture editing as well as the Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography.

Columbia Journalism Review and Time magazines called the Monitor one of the best small newspapers in the country. The staff consists of a photo editor, the intern and two staff photographers. An intern is treated as a staff photographer, and will be closely supervised and coached. Interns have many opportunities to cover sports, news, features, and are strongly encouraged to produce photo-stories.

Applicants should be technically proficient and be experienced working with an electronic darkroom. Camera equipment supplied if needed, but interns must have their own (insured) car and cell phone. Portfolios containing solid photo stories and diverse singles demonstrating strong use of light, color and compositional creativity will have the edge.

Applicants should mail a portfolio (digital portfolios on CDs are preferred and clips are fine as a supplement), resume, cover letter, names of three references to: Alexander Cohn, Photo Editor, The Concord Monitor, One Monitor Drive, Concord, NH 03301. Include email address and all phone numbers. Overnight packages can be received at this address. Email Alexander Cohn at acohn@cmonitor.com with questions.]

Deadline is June 1 for the Fall 2012 position and October 1 for Winter/Spring 2013.
