Re House Bill 488, establishing a commission to study the efficiency and responsiveness of state government:
A similar study was done during the term of Gov. Craig Benson, six years ago. Given the rejection of Benson in the next elective cycle, not many of that study's suggested changes were ever activated.
Our current governor seems likely to sign up for a fourth term, thus making any study results more likely of activation.
I would suggest that the public members be chosen from the more politically active residents of the state, such as the Libertarian Party, the Free State Project, the New Hampshire Liberty Alliance and at least one taxpayer organization (Ed Naile comes to mind). A complainer is not always a doer and should not be chosen as a public member. (More likely such individual would be railroaded by the committee.)
I will recommend that HB 488 be found as Ought to Pass.
HOWARD L. WILSON

By Anonymous - 02/18/2009 - 7:55 amI guess maybe if that is how you feel maybe you should move to Wyoming. I have known Mr Wilson AKA "Treetop" for nearly 30 years, over this time while residing in Andover he has worked at the town transfer station, volunteered countless hours to the Fourth of July celebration commitee and recycling commitee, served on the Board of Selectman and Budget Commitee, and yes has run for State Rep., Senate, Governor and yes even President of the United States. Although I do not always agree with him I have the up most respect for his courage to speak his mind even when it goes against the norm, that is what this country is about, not your liberal hippy lets all agree and follow suit lifestyle, people like him deserve representation, or remember how the revolution started "no taxation without representation".

Commissions are generally unpaid
By Anonymous - 02/14/2009 - 11:07 pmMembers of a commission get no pay. HB488 gives the members of the mooted commission a mileage allowance, at the same (token) amount that is given to our basically unpaid, volunteer legislators.
That mileage allowance should be struck from the bill. Anyone worthy to serve on such a commission will be happy to drive to Concord on their own dime. This is New Hampshire.

Don't need a commission to tell you what's wrong..
By Anonymous - 02/13/2009 - 1:51 pmThrow out all the democrats and we'll be back to prosperity and normalcy as before.
NH is not turning 'blue', it just has a voter fraud problem...and the democrats are voting these fraudulent practices into law as we speak. (HB 614 comes to mind, courtesly of Rep Weed who was himself caught with phony voter affidavits!!)
Throw him and his friends out. They are neer do wells who don't care about the people only their own special interests.

By Anonymous - 02/13/2009 - 8:49 amAs for the "politically active residents of the state, such as the Libertarian Party, the Free State Project, the New Hampshire Liberty Alliance and at least one taxpayer organization," they were actively WRONG in choosing NH, a state which is rapidly shifting from red to blue (now purple). They should move to Wyoming.
