Two prisoners attempted to escape yesterday but were soon caught by the police, according to the state Department of Corrections.

Julio DeJesus, 32, of Lawrence, Mass., and Bruce True, 23, of Enfield were minimum-security inmates at the Transitional Work Center on North State Street in Concord.

According to the Corrections Department, a witness saw the two men in a cemetery close to the work center about 1:45 p.m.

The witness called the Concord police, who contacted the state police.

About 2:35 p.m., the police re-ceived a report of two suspicious-looking men getting into a maroon minivan on Sewalls Falls Road in Concord. When the state police approached, the men got out of the vehicle and ran off, according to the Corrections Department. They were soon caught by the Concord and state police and returned to the state prison in Concord.

Two women were also arrested in connection with the escape.

DeJesus is serving a three- to six-year sentence from Coos County for the sale, possession and manufacturing of heroin. He was to be eligible for parole May 10, 2010.

True originally received a three- to seven-year sentence for theft by unauthorized taking in Grafton County. The theft occurred in November 2002. He was returned to prison on a technical parole violation July 31, 2006, and was to be eligible to complete his original sentence Jan. 4, 2010.

Escape is a felony, and the men could be sentenced to an additional 3½ to seven years in prison.

Those two clowns...

...just have these tell-tale looks on their faces that say; "we love not knowing stuff".

can't fix stupid

with so little time left it's hard to believe that these guys thought it was a good time to escape. i don't think they will be spending much time in minimum security for the next 5 years or so. great job by law enforcement to get these people off the streets. Oh, by the way, no names on the girls involved, and what about the child found in the van??

I heard one name on the radio this morning

Don't know why the Monitor didn't publish it, it was Jessica Langevin. This was on 95.7 FM on the 6 am news. If they said the other name, I didn't catch it.

I have no .sig file.

AS I SEE IT, by Mike "Mainer Mike" Brown.

Why do these guys make it harder for themselves by trying to escape prison?

The chances of getting away are so remote. And even if you do, being on the run is no picnic.

Now they've made things all the more difficult for themselves, as their prison sentence will be longer.

Some people just don't know how to manage their lives, to say the least.

Laugh If You Want ....

Well, if you folks know anything about what's going on with the State budget, you should know that more of these "knuckleheads" will probably try to escape more often after more Corrections Officers are laid off in Concord this week.

That's right -- they already chopped 30+ heads from the Concord & Laconia prisons (Laconia is being closed) and because our wonderful legislators could not raise extra revenue by approving slot machines at racetracks, the Corrections Dept. will be forced to lay off ANOTHER 40 or so officers this week to save $$$.

This is downwright shameful on the part of the governor and our legislature and the State Employees Association should also be ashamed for allowing this to happen. The ratio of prisoners to Correction Officers (COs) now in Concord can sometimes be as bad as 50 prisoners to one CO. Take another 40 heads out of the mix and you could have a situation where 2 COs are in charge of 150 or more inmates.

So -- I hope you people who live in Concord or live near the prison feel confident in the State or Concord Police to protect you. There have been some ugly incidents inside the prison lately where a prisoner OD'd on heroine and a guy's face was cut up to the tune of 90 stitches. It won't be long before there is a MAJOR problem in that place and the violence will spill out on to the streets of Concord or a couple of COs trying to do their jobs will be hurt or killed.

That's the problem with Corrections ... nobody cares about what happens in the prisons. All people want is the bad guys put away and not worry about them anymore.

And we're putting good people who have a thankless job out of work ......

Why DOC can't meet it's budget

Dennis F, the REAL reason Corrections personal are being laid off is because the budget can not afford to pay them. WHY, I think it's is the YEARS of OVERTIME ABUSE that has sucked the system dry. Why are officers paid an extra 10% to have their overtime flexed, but no one is flexed? Why are Capts and LT sending officers home so they can fill the position for overtime, and at the Capt/LT rate, not officer and stated in the contract? Why are they taking the state to court to force them to pay all officers 15 minutes overtime a day? Why on holidays an officer collecting overtime is in to watch 1 inmate clean the floor?
The abuse and miss-management are now finally coming back to haunt you. The only proplem is, those responsible for it will not be held responsible, and someone else will be forced to pay the price.

Real rocket scientists

Aside from the pointless gushing by cop groupies. Does't it occur to anyone that these two are too stupid to escape from a minimum security facility? Could've just walked off a work detail on a busy day and been gone, but no. There are some who got arrested and others who got rescued -- these guys got saved from themselves.

Criminal "Masterminds"

These two knuckleheads should get the full seven year term.

How long did they actually spend on planning this? It appears they've watched too many episodes of "Prison Break" on taxpayer dime. Morons.

True was "returned to prison on a technical parole violation..." It seems like this clown just won't learn.

I was lucky enough to see 4 State Troopers and Concord Police Officers go flying by my house. Little did I know that they were after two escapees who just happened to be found in my neighborhood. I commend you guys for catching these two cons.

Oh, why wasn't the identity of the two female accomplices divulged? That's an important part of the story. Was that not given to the Monitor?

Regardless, keep them all locked up...we'll be better off.
