Save charter schools

All children in this state deserve an appropriate education within the public school system. We have provided outstanding programs for students with various special needs and for children who do not speak English. There are other students who require accommodations to the standard educational practices in our public schools.

Charter schools meet the needs of many of these children, among them students at risk of dropping out and those with learning styles that are best met in smaller environments.

My experience as a member of the board of trustees of the Seacoast Charter School has given me a real appreciation for the contribution charter schools are making to public education in New Hampshire. The open enrollment charter schools are currently facing a financial crisis.

Lacking a permanent funding provision by the Legislature, most of these outstanding schools will soon close. Please contact your state representatives and senators and urge them to support House Bill 1642, which would provide the resources to maintain our charter schools.
