The editorial about welfare recipients in Epsom ("Epsom town officials put Scrooge to shame," Monitor Oct. 15) stuck me as an attack on Welfare Administrator Lisa Cote and also the selectmen. More so on Ms. Cote.
I do not agree or disagree with what Epsom did; that's how they run their town. When a person is accused of wrongdoing by a newspaper, at least have the guts to sign your name to the editorial. If that's your opinion, be proud of it; don't hide behind the paper itself. Maybe she didn't give you the information you requested because she was protecting the people she has assisted. She probably had it in her mind you would publish all the names and information and cause further embarrassment to the people on the list. She probably did as she was requested by people over her.
I read the Monitor because it is generally a good paper. Yet why does the Monitor staff have to go looking for dirt on people who do not deserve it? What she most likely needs is help in the welfare office.
You certainly have not helped, only made a lot of people upset with the system and made it a lot harder on the people that do need help.
