The police are investigating a highway crash that killed an elderly Barnstead woman in the town yesterday afternoon. The police say 86-year-old Elvia Hetu was killed when her car swerved into a guardrail on Route 28, then crossed the center line into the path of a tractor-trailer.
Route 28 was shut down for hours while investigators examined the scene.

A Concord Hospital emergency room doctor was killed yesterday evening in a motorcycle accident in Hooksett. Jameson Thissell, 35, of Bow, died after his motorcycle crossed the center-line on Hackett Hill Road and hit an oncoming car just before 6 p.m.
Concord Hospital spokeswoman Jennifer Dearborn said Thissell had worked there since 2004.
