Volunteer tutors needed

Nelson Mandela said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” Even if you are not a professional educator, you can do your part to change the world by joining the Merrimack County Adult Learner Services volunteer tutors at Second Start.

After completing a three-part series of training workshops, you can help another adult who wants to learn to read, to speak English, or to earn a high school equivalency certificate. No prior teaching experience is required, but patience and flexibility are a must. Training, materials and ongoing support are provided to all volunteers. You can really make a difference in someone’s life by giving two to four hours a week of volunteer tutoring.

The start of a new year is the perfect time to do something for yourself, and becoming a literacy tutor might also benefit the world!

Winter training workshops will be held starting Jan. 14 from 6 to 9 p.m. Call 228-1341, ext. 4210, for more information.
