Math and reading

Laconia Adult Education is offering free basic math and reading classes starting Sept. 10 and 12 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. for 11 weeks. Improve your reading comprehension skills and learn basic math skills from fractions, percentages, decimals to pre-GED math skills. The reading clinic will cover the subject areas of science, social studies and literature comprehension, in addition to writing and grammar skills, which are pre-requisites for the GED exam. The classes are individualized; each student progresses at his or her own pace. To enroll in the reading and math classes, call the Laconia Adult Education Office at 524-5712 or stop by the Adult Education Office in Room 108 at Laconia High School.


Peaceful art

New Hampshire Peace Action is hosting an art festival in honor of the United Nations International Day of Peace. Artwork in all genres and from all ages is welcome. The theme is “What Does World Peace Look Like to You?” Artwork will be displayed Sept. 21 from noon to 3 p.m. on the State House lawn. Entry forms are due before Sept. 15 and can be mailed to N.H. Peace Action, 4 Park St., Suite 210, Concord, 03301. Artwork should be brought to the festival. Entry/submission forms are located at or by calling 228-0559. Bauman fundraiser

A special boot camp class to raise money to help Jeremy Woodward and Cobb Hill Construction make Boston Marathon bombing victim Jeff Bauman’s parents’ home ADA accessible will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. at Jeremy’s Bootcamp in Concord.
