Day of caring
Granite United Way’s Merrimack County region will hold its annual day-long service event, Day of Caring, on Wednesday. Participating nonprofit organizations will be matched with volunteers from local business and community groups. This day also serves as the “kickoff” to the annual United Way workplace campaign.
Nonprofit organizations that are in need of a helping hand are encouraged to register their projects by calling Val Guy at 224-2595, ext. 226, for Merrimack County projects. Project ideas include painting, washing windows, repairing fences, landscaping/yard clean-up, general repairs and more.
Volunteers are needed! Teams can range in size from one to 10. Shifts are available from 9 a.m. to noon, 1 to 4 p.m., or all day. Merrimack County’s campaign kickoff event will be held Wednesday at noon at White Park in Concord.
Concord Regional Visiting Nurse Association Hospice will offer a five-week, veteran-to-veteran volunteer training program beginning Sept. 25 from 9 a.m. to noon at Concord Regional VNA Hospice House. The veteran volunteers will offer companionship and support to veteran hospice patients in local nursing care facilities, patient homes and at Concord Regional VNA Hospice House. Volunteers who are veterans assist hospice patients who are also veterans in reminiscing and telling life stories. They also educate and assist patients in receiving veteran benefits. In addition, volunteers cook meals at the Hospice House, offer administrative support, help at special events and more.

The New Hampshire Spaying and Altering Service is offering a gourmet vegan cookbook, Cooking With Compassion, to raise funds for its low-cost spaying and altering program for dogs and cats. The book costs $20 postpaid. For more information and to order, call 224-1361.
