Inspiring children to read

Did you know there is a special annual award that honors Concord resident and children’s author Elizabeth Yates? She was a strong advocate of reading and supported library programs in the Concord community during her lifetime. The Elizabeth Yates Award began in 1994 to honor an individual in the greater Concord area who is actively engaged in inspiring young people to read. Yates received the first award named in her honor in 1994. This award has been presented to authors, illustrators, storytellers, teachers, librarians, volunteers and others involved in encouraging reading.

Do you know someone who is deserving of this award? The Elizabeth Yates Award Committee is currently seeking nominations until Sept. 30.

You can submit your nomination in a simple online form at the Concord Public Library website at concord
publiclibrary.net in the Children’s section. We will honor the recipient at a special ceremony in November. We look forward to seeing who receives this distinct award for this year.
