D avid Varella IV, Army National Guard private, graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C.
Heidi Rule, registered nurse, was awarded the New Hampshire Department of Corrections’ Life Saving medal for a 2012 incident in which an inmate at the New Hampshire State Prison for Men attempted to take his own life. She provided life-saving medical treatment to the inmate until an ambulance arrived to transport him to the hospital.
Preston Schaub, corrections officer, received the New Hampshire Department of Corrections’ Team Commendation citation bar for the assistance he provided during a 2012 incident in which an inmate attempted to take his own life.
Helmut “Hal” Koch was named chairman of the advisory board at NHTI. He is president of Exacom Inc., a technology firm headquartered in Concord which employs many NHTI graduates, and has been a member of the board for 18 years. He replaces Kenneth Lurvey, who is stepping down after five years as chairman.
