Christmas dinner

First United Methodist Church of Gilford will host the Alward Family’s annual free meal on Christmas Day. Every year the doors of the church open at noon for fellowship, carols and appetizers. At 1 p.m., a complete ham dinner is served in the church fellowship hall. The Alward family welcomes anyone to come and eat or to work on the dinner. Reservations are required.

To reserve or volunteer to help, call 527-0152 or email by Dec. 20.

Cookie contest

The annual cookie contest at Gilmanton Year-Round Library will be held Dec. 14 from 1 to 3 p.m. Children can enjoy a visit from Santa and holiday face painting. To enter the contest, bring three dozen cookies (and the recipe) to the library on Dec. 13 between 4 and 7 p.m. All bakers are invited to support this event whether or not they enter the contest. Town Moderator Mark Sisti will lead a panel of judges, including one student selected by lottery. Cookies will be on sale Dec. 14 at the library.

For more information, call Carolyn Dickey at 267-6098 or email

Biddy ball

Biddy basketball sign-ups for grades 3 through 6 will be held Dec. 7 from 10:30 a.m. to noon and Dec. 14 from 9 to 11 a.m. at Epsom Bible Church, 398 Black Hall Road. Epsom Central School students are welcome. Wear exercise clothes for practicing in the gym until the end of sign-up time. Also, the church is looking for one more Biddy coach.

Hunger games

Get Fit NH is challenging residents with its “Fun Friday Challenge to Help End Hunger.” Time at the end of each Friday training session in December is spent collecting food for local food banks. Clients or coaches create an exercise challenge and then find a sponsor for that challenge.

If you want to learn how to get involved with the challenge, email nancy@getfitnh or call 344-2651.
