Kearsarge baseball Coach Travis Pelletier knew his team was going to have a battle on its hands against a Winnisquam (9-8) team that played tough all season. His instincts were correct. His 19th-seeded Cougars (7-1) built a 10-2 lead yesterday going into the fifth inning of a Division III first-round game, but a five-run bottom of the fifth for the 14th-seeded Bears (9-8) brought the game within reach before Cougars starter Jake Vierzen clamped down and helped his team hold on for the 10-8 victory. “Jake probably had his gutsiest performance of the season out there tonight,” Pelletier said. “He really stepped up when we …
