Bergman classic plays at NHTI

Catch a new take on an old masterpiece tonight as the NHTI Film Society unveils a restored print of Ingmar Bergman's The Magician. The 1958 meditation on illusion (which just might have something to do with filmmaking itself) plays at 7 p.m. at Sweeney Hall Auditorium on the NHTI campus.

School celebrates with concerts

The Concord Community Music School raises its voice and kicks up its heels in celebration this weekend as it marks its anniversary. Things begin tomorrow night with a 7:30 chamber music concert. On Saturday, a string of student recitals make up the day's "Performathon."

The concert tomorrow includes singers Hannah Murray, Andrea Veal and Emily Jaworski, with instrumentation from Stefani Burk, Stephanie Ratté, Abigail Charbeneau and Kathryn Southworth. Music by Bach, Mozart and Schubert will be performed.

The Saturday events include more than 200 students performing from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The music school is open to the public during the day and also features an instrument "petting zoo."

Kimball-Jenkins features 2 shows

The galleries at the Kimball-Jenkins Estate welcome two new shows this month. "Saying I do, the Art of Wedding photography" comes to the The Carolyn Jenkins Gallery and showcases work from Concord-area photographers. A reception is set for Feb. 16 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The Jill C Wilson Gallery features editorial illustrations from Peter Noonan in a show called "Equal Opportunity Offender." The reception for Noonan's show is also set for Feb. 16 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Take in a survey of modernist photos

Manchester's Currier Museum of Art offers an expansive new show, "A New Vision: Modernist Photography," starting Saturday. The show includes more than 100 photographs in two galleries, and features work from Ansel Adams, Margaret Bourke-White and Charles Sheeler, among others.

The museum is at 150 Ash St. in Manchester and open every day but Tuesday. Admission costs $10 for adults, $9 for seniors, $8 for students and is free for those under 17. For information on the show and other exhibits at the Currier, visit currier.org or call 669-6144, ect.108.

Quite the tale

The NHTI Film Society will show Dolphin Tale tomorrow night at 7. The film depicts a boy's relationship with a dolphin, Winter, whose tail must be taken off for it to live. The boy pushes for Winter to receive a prosthetic tail.

The film is presented with backing from the Disabilities Advisory Board and the NHTI Student Senate and Campus Activities Board. Admission is by donation, and the film is screened at the Sweeney Hall Auditorium on campus. For information, call 271-7185 or go to nhti.edu.

Family harmony with Santa Croce

Santa Croce, a group of six brothers and sisters, brings its familial chemistry to the Franklin Opera House tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. The group's member sing and play guitar and mandolin, with a repertoire including the Mamas and the Papas, Justin Beiber and original compositions.
