The Insiders: Learn to play an instrument or raise chickens

If you’ve ever had that sudden inclination lately to learn an instrument, here’s your chance.

Well, technically you’ll only be able to try it, but it’s the perfect launching point for what undoubtedly will be a budding music career that will one day make you rich and famous – or just able to play the tuba or violin. But the instrument petting zoo is just one of the many things going on at the Concord Community Music School today as part of its Anniversary Weekend.

It’s an all day event beginning at 9:30 a.m. In addition to the “petting zoo,” where you can try any instrument the music school offers, there will be tours, refreshments and activities for the whole family. While the event is free, there’s no harm in throwing some money into the green bowls strategically placed in the Community Room and Recital Hall. That’s where students will be taking part in the annual Performathon, a five-hour stretch of non-stop, live music, beginning at 10 a.m. It’s a huge fundraiser for the financial aid fund, so reach deep into your wallet and add some green to that bowl.

But if life on a farm is more appealing, head down to Osborne’s Agway to learn how to raise some chickens. It begins at 10 a.m. and is free. You’ll be one step closer to living off the grid or having some cute pets running around your yard.
