The Insiders: Get a good laugh at NHTI tonight

We all have our own way of looking at life.

Some have a glass half full approach, while others view it as one that’s more of an empty drinking cup. At the Insider, we prefer to view it as an overflowing beer stein.

For comedian/musician Stephen Lynch, he just likes to use the things he notices while going about his day to entertain audiences. Armed with a guitar and arsenal of quips, Lynch will mock everything from tattoos to veganism, and just about anything that has to do with pop culture. And tonight’s your chance to see him live.

Lynch will take over the NHTI gymnasium for a 7:30 p.m. show that’s sure to have you hunched over, in stitches or any other catchy phrase used to describe boisterous giggling. Who knows, he might just make fun of you. Tickets are $10 for NHTI students and alumni with valid ID or $20 for anyone else and can be purchased at the door. But can you really put a price on a night filled with laughter? No, no you can’t.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for those looking for a front row seat and the almost certainty of Lynch’s humorous attention. According to the NHTI press release, Lynch considers himself, “a musician trapped in the body of a comedian.” Maybe tonight will be the one where his musical self finally gets released. Doubtful, but you never know unless you’re there.

If you’re in the mood for a home cooked meal, but don’t feel like slaving over a hot stove, this might be the perfect night to take part in the Grace Episcopal Church’s monthly supper. The April supper will feature corned beef, cabbage, roasted veggies with potato and rice pudding for dessert. And don’t worry, the corned beef and cabbage was not held over from St. Patrick’s Day. We checked.

There’s no charge for the meal, which begins at 5 p.m., but donations are accepted and support the church’s Take-A-Tote Ministry, which helps feed Concord’s hungry school children. Grace Episcopal is at 39 Eastman St.

In the spirit of National Arbor Day, which is today if you didn’t know, there will be a tree planting ceremony at White Park this morning at 10. Think of all the great oxygen it will provide over the years. We can just feel our lungs’ excitement.
