The Insiders: Sorry dudes, this dance party is strictly for the ladies
You would never bring your mom to prom, not unless you were actively looking for a way to ensure a lifetime of harassment from your buddies. Truthfully, your mom probably wouldn’t want to go to prom, anyway – at least not with you. She needs a break from you sometimes, too.
Here’s a perfect solution – tonight she can get that break and go to prom, too. That’s because the Concord Mom Prom returns for its second year to the Holiday Inn tonight from 7 to 11:30 . The event is part of National Ladies Night Out, which this year will raise money for Families In Transition.
Tickets are $35 in advance and $40 at the door. Admission includes appetizers and access to two photo booths, and there will be a cash bar and raffle prizes.
Here’s the thing, though: This party is for ladies only. Sorry dudes, but that’s what makes it so perfect for the ladies in attendance. Men as a species are wired to think women always love to be chatted up by goofy guys, but give them a chance to dance the night away without any of us around, and they’ll probably think they’ve won the lottery.
And ladies, don’t feel like you have to drop any coin on a new outfit – that dress tucked in the back of your closet might just win you some accolades. There will be prizes for tackiest dress, best wedding dress and for best original prom dress, so throw caution – and perhaps fashion – to the wind.
Important note: It’s called the Concord Mom Prom, but it’s open to women of all ages, whether they are moms or not. It’s essentially just a huge, dude-free dance party, and what woman doesn’t love that?
Tonight there will also be a community supper hosted by Grace Episcopal Church at 5 p.m. Call 224-2252 or visit graceeastconcord.org for more information. Donations will benefit the Take-A-Tote Ministry at the church, which helps feed Concord’s hungry schoolchildren.
