The Insiders: Walk around Main Street today. It’s ok, it’s Market Days!

Now we’re not ones to advise you to pull a Matt Bonner and walk out into the middle of a busy street, merely for a picture with the NBA Championship trophy during a whirlwind tour of the city like he did last week.

But since there will be no cars on Main Street today with the start of Market Days, feel free to walk around in the street as much as you’d like. We actually encourage it because really, who doesn’t enjoy gallivanting around a closed street with tons of fun stuff to do. And trust us, there’s something for everyone. The festivities kick off at 10 a.m. and run until 10 p.m. today, and the same can be said for Friday and Saturday.

New this year is a 12-hole mini golf course and a kids playground at City Plaza, in front of the Memorial Arch. South Main Park is the new anchor of the south end of the festival, complete with a stage for community performances, like Cinderella Jr. (2 p.m.) and the Freese Brothers Big Band (6 p.m.) and an AstroTurf area for people to get real comfy.

There’s free family fun (hula hoop making and tie dying) on the State House lawn, a new location for the beer tent and a skate team demo at 4 p.m. on the corner of Pleasant and Main. Have you heard enough?

If not, the Homegrown Stage in Bicentennial Square starts rockin’ at 2 p.m. with Lil’ Penny (not to be confused with the talking doll from the 1990’s Nike commercials), while the sounds in Eagle Square begin at 4 with Will Kindler.
