Long after state workers have emptied out and residents have nestled their cars into driveways, then and only then, does Concord take on the quality of a town rather than a capital city.

Dusk approaches. The noises are softer and the echoes longer. The upcoming evening changes everything.

Quieter as the light fades. The remaining sunlight grows warmer and sometimes, deep dark red. The ambient blue shade in the West turns deeper and grows ever darker. Blue turns to black.

Then the streets become serene paths, only interrupted by passing headlights. The shadows become harsher. The street lamps become the source of light in the final night sky. Strangers pass in silence, rarely a greeting.

The buildings, so busy by day, now become silent monuments. A history rich in New England culture, structures covered in new veneer of a place trying to move forward from its past. But night invites a different look, down blackened, mysterious pathways of discovery. The darkness invites a look that the light hides.

Silence welcomes a different pace, with time to search.

"The streets become serene pathways of discovery, in a history rich in New England culture, awaiting the new veneer of a multi-million dollar project thrust upon the disapproving town."
