The Insiders: To-do list: Feed your exotic pets, then enjoy National Night Out on Tuesday

The Insiders

Here’s a quick look behind the curtain of the Insider date book for last night: nap, eat tacos, nap, walk and feed the ocelot, head out for a night on the town. But what about a night out with the town?

That’s on Tuesday’s docket, and it should be on yours, too. National Night Out is a major event across the country, and it lands in Concord once again Tuesday from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at Rollins Park. The idea behind National Night Out is to promote cooperation between the local police and the community, which we’ve found to be a good idea. Because it turns out when the police say freeze, they really mean it – it’s not just a suggested activity, as we mistakenly thought.

There’s a ton of fun stuff going on, like a zoo exhibit, a bouncy house and tons of informational displays, as well as fire safety and K-9 demonstrations. There’s also bicycle safety and rock climbing walls and tunes spun by DJ Nazzy of WJYY. And don’t forget food! Well, you actually can forget your own food, because there’s plenty available at the park – pizza, hot dogs, snow cones, cotton candy, fried dough, ice cream, lemonade and more, and each item is $1.

Another highlight of the evening is the annual Badge Ball Tournament, featuring teams of public safety, local businesses and other organizations duking it out on the dodge ball court. Take advantage of the opportunity to throw stuff at city officials!

The event is totally free, and a free shuttle will be available from the parking lot at 2 Pillsbury St.
