The Insiders: Porkfest is definitely the best food-based festival in town today

It should come as no surprise to you that most of our favorite festivals are food-based. Of course, not all of them are home runs. Prunefest didn’t quite work out the way we’d hoped, and we were forced to cancel Sardineapalooza after only a few minutes. But some are obviously keepers, like the one you can catch today at Grace Episcopal Church at 30 Eastman St. It’s the 5th annual East Concord Pork Festival, from noon to 3 p.m. in the park across the street from the church.

Here are the details you need to know: It’s a meal featuring roast pork, hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, potato salad, cole slaw and brownies. For those of you keeping score at home, that’s seven of the Insider food groups represented. The event is sponsored by nearby neighbor Quality Cash Market. But there will also be entertainment from balladeer Jim Barnes and a handful of raffles and other fun stuff. It’s a free event, but donations are welcome and will go to the Take-A-Tote ministry, which helps feed Concord’s hungry school children.

If you’re looking to venture a bit outside of the city this evening, you can catch the grand finale of the Bow summer concert series sponsored by the Bow Rotary Club. The show, which is from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bow town bandstand, will wrap up the summer season and will feature The Moores. The concert is free and open to everyone, so that means you’re invited!
