On Sunday, January 20, 2013, Dave and Charlene Gilbert lost their house to a fire; they were living there with their two children and Charlene Gilbert’s sister, Casey Smith and her two sons. Charlene Gilbert and Casey Smith’s mother Connie Moulton says that since the fire their community has rushed to support her daughters and their families, and that they are grateful for all of the help that people have given them in this challenging time. On Saturday, January 26, 2013 the American Legion Post 33 hosted a meat bingo fundraiser for the families. Moulton works at the Legion and Smith, an Iraq war veteran, is an active member. The Ladies Auxiliary regularly hosts meat bingo benefits Legion Post in Meredith where people can buy sets of three playing cards laminated together, the use pennies to mark which cards the MC has called out, and the first person to have all three cards called out in a set wins. Local business donated the meat as well as other prizes that were given away in raffles between rounds of bingo with all of the proceeds going to help the Smith and Gilbert families.
