C-SPAN documentary to feature Jane Pierce
Jane Pierce, the wife of the only president ever elected from New Hampshire, will be highlighted in Monday’s episode of C-SPAN’s two-year series, First Ladies: Influence and Image. Part of the filming was done in Concord, home to the Pierce Manse and Franklin Pierce’s grave.
Jane Pierce lived in the White House during a tumultuous period in U.S. history, but it was perhaps the drama within her own family that most occupied her. Jane and Franklin Pierce had lost two of their three sons before Franklin’s 1852 run for
president. And just before his inauguration, their third son, Bennie, was killed in a train derailment.
The Pierce segment will air on C-SPAN on Monday at 9 p.m.
