The Insiders: This auction reflects well on Concord

When we heard about the annual Friends Program Auction taking place this evening, we wasted no time – we headed straight to the bank, withdrew our life savings and practiced our bidding techniques to ensure we would be the ones going home with all the Chandler Bing memorabilia available. Alas, in our haste we were thinking of the wrong Friends program.

Concord’s Friends Program has been matching volunteers with community members in need since 1975, and tonight at 6 at the Grappone Conference Center is its annual fundraising auction, the group’s keystone event every spring. This year’s installment is a true reflection – you’ll see what we did there in a minute – of Concord’s greatness, as the signature auction items are 11 trumeau-style mirrors featuring artwork by 11 of Concord’s top artists.

There’s plenty more to bid on, including tickets and a limo ride to watch the Red Sox take on the Tampa Bay Rays, a one-week vacation on St. Kitts (don’t forget to pack an issue of The Insider!), two round-trip tickets to the Azores with six nights of hotel accommodations (don’t forget to pack six issues of The Insider!), a Bravo! shopping experience, a chef’s tasting for six at Granite Restaurant (Is it true that chefs taste like chicken? You’ll have to let us know) and the opportunity to create and name your own sandwich at The Works. Might we recommend The Insider, a delicious blend of snark and charm served fresh on newsprint every morning?

Admission to the auction is $50 and includes full dinner and dessert.

Perhaps some future artist contributions from NHTI can be spied tonight, as the school holds its opening reception for the senior visual arts majors capstone exhibit. The reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Smokestack Studio, 254 N. Main St., but the exhibit will continue at the NHTI Library Gallery from May 6 to 19. Library hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Just remember to hush your voices – in the library, we mean. We’re not certain of the rules in a smokestack. For more information, contact Susan Haas at 224-1017 or shaas@ccsnh.edu.
