The Nevers Band has been around, in one iteration or another, for more than 150 years.

When the band formed as part of a Union Army regiment in 1862, they could not have foreseen what lay ahead of them – nor all the changes that would be made in the world of music. What would they have done differently given the knowledge and trends of today? Would onetime band leader and namesake Arthur Nevers have composed some of his works in hopes of making them into a popular ringtone? Would they have performed a dubstep version of “Stars and Stripes Forever?” Would they still have rebuffed a young Nicki Minaj’s attempts to join the band? (May not have happened.)

They were way ahead of their time on the whole “all music is free” thing, anyway.

The tradition continues tonight as Concord kicks off its summer music series at the State House Plaza at 7. Come on down for a tradition older than almost all of our readers! It’s a big and brassy marching band – not a sad trombone sound in the bunch. You’ll never ever say Nevers again (also our favorite James Bond movie). For more information, visit concordnh.gov or neversband.org.

Elsewhere, Veriditas Herbal Shoppe (30A Warren St.) will host a shamanic plant ritual to delve deep into plant medicine and oneself. You have to admit, that sounds pretty heady. The cost is $25. For more information, call 347-438-5002.

Finally, we have some corrections to mistakes we made perviously. First off, we just misspelled “previously” as “perviously,” and for that, we are truly sorry. Second of all, our claim that heiress and hotel enthusiast Paris Hilton is “pretty much next in line for the presidency” was way off base. Lastly, the Turanor Planetsolar, the first boat to circumnavigate the globe using nothing but solar power, did not require a separate dry-cell battery setup to power a boom box playing Katrina and the Waves on a nonstop loop, as we reported. We’ll try to do better next time.
