The Insiders: This dinner has really gone to the dogs (and cats)

If you’ve seen the painting of dogs playing poker in your buddy’s man cave and couldn’t help wondering what that dinner party was really like, now is your chance to score that elusive invite. Tonight is the Concord-Merrimack County SPCA’s ninth annual Dinner with the Animals from 5:30 to 9 at the Grappone Center.
It’ll cost you 75 bones –
think cash, not chew toys – to get in, or $60 if you are a member, but the evening is not without major perks, such as a social hour with the animals at 5:30 Why not capitalize on the opportunity to discuss how to better diversify your portfolio or snag a stray investment tip or two, perhaps learn the secrets to the age-old method of subterranean burial to secure valuable objects? A seated dinner, most likely initiated with a sit command, will follow at 6:30 Whether the evening ends with a belly rub is strictly left to the discretion of the other people at your table.
Ken Foster, author of I’m a Good Dog – presumably not an autobiography – will be the special guest speaker. There will also be a silent auction during the social hour with the animals and a live auction beginning at 8 p.m. To reserve tickets, call 753-9801.
∎ ∎ ∎
Don’t stay up too late, though, because tomorrow morning is the annual Friends of White Park Cleanup Day. It’s a BYO event – bring your own garden tools – beginning at 9 a.m. Cleanup will start near the trolley stop and wrap up at noon.
