The Insiders: A parade of events for Memorial Day

Though your Facebook feed may have led you to believe that tomorrow is Meme-orial Day – seriously, whose job is it to make all of these aggressive holiday internet memes? And how do we have them fired? – in reality, it’s Memorial Day, a much more worthy holiday that actually exists. And for proof of its existence, you have to go no farther than downtown.

In keeping with tradition, Concord will host its annual Memorial Day Parade, with staging beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Burlington Coat Factory parking lot on Storrs Street. The parade begins at 9 a.m. and will proceed up Pleasant Street Extension before turning onto and heading north on North Main Street to the Old North Cemetery for a wreath-laying ceremony. The parade will then follow North State Street to the State House plaza for the unveiling of an Eagle Scout project that spruced up and made additions to the war memorial, followed by another wreath-laying and a few speeches.

Just to recap, that’s three North streets, one of which is Old, as well as a Pleasant one.

If you’re looking for something to do today, get yourself over to the Concord Community Music School on Wall Street for a performance by Ed and Neil Pearlman, violin and piano duo. According to the Music School, the evening will feature “Scottish fiddling with flavors of jazz and Latin music.”

What does jazz taste like? That’s a fair question. Bring your appetite and find out when the concert begins at 7 p.m.
