Before you read this particular Insiders column, we’re going to need you to relax. Relax. Relax. Gaze at the newspaper as it swirls and spins in and out of focus. In and out of focus. Time turns elastic. Now that you’re fully entranced, you’re in the perfect state of mind to read that hypnotist (and Concord native) Pete Mamos is performing at the Concord Public Library tonight. Mamos will have the audience rolling in the aisles (and the volunteers rolling on stage) as he treats them to his brand of family-friendly hypnotism. Will he turn people into chickens? Only time will tell! This free event takes place at 5 p.m. It’s currently sold out, but if you check in at the library (45 Green St.) at 4 p.m. and get on the waiting list, you stand a pretty good chance of getting in. For more information, visit concordpubliclibrary.net or call 225-8670, option 2.

Elsewhere in town tonight, there are two separate art openings that promise to be a lot of fun. The Mill Brook Gallery’s latest exhibit, “Fashion Statement,” opens tonight with a reception from 5 to 8. The exhibit features 15 female artists and their takes on fashion throughout history. We’re talking everything from paintings and drawings to wearable art clothing (Note: Do not try to wear the wearable art clothing without purchasing it first!). The Mill Brook Gallery is located at 236 Hopkinton Road. For more information, visit millbrookgallery.com or call 226-2046.

“Threshold” opens at the Kimball Jenkins Estate (266 N. Main St.) tonight. This latest exhibit, which focuses on expressing transitions and new beginnings, is presented in conjunction with the Women’s Caucus for Art New Hampshire Chapter. The opening reception runs from 5 to 7 tonight. For more information, visit wcanh.org or call 225-3932.
