The Insiders: War Witch screens at Red River Theatres tonight
Who’s got four thumbs and knows the coolest things to do in town tonight? These guys (simultaneous four thumbs point toward selves)! Let’s get down to the nitty-gritty and get this show on the road, shall we?
Red River Theatres is playing War Witch tonight at 7. The film is about the plight of child soldiers in Africa. A young girl named Komona is the titular witch; after being kidnapped as a small child and forced into a rebel army, she works her way up the ranks, all the while hoping to escape servitude.
A discussion with Second Chance Africa representatives Dina Solomon and Jerold White follows the film. Reserve a free ticket (a $10 donation is suggested) at wacnh.org or call 224-4698 for more information.
Non-required, but Insiders-recommended reading suggestion to supplement your African child soldier knowledge: What is the What: The Autobiography of Valentino Achak Deng by Dave Eggers (available now at the Concord Public Library).

Now, some corrections to mistakes we made in last week’s columns.
First of all, the Insiders did not “just miss” being selected to play in this year’s Major League Baseball All-Star Game, as we reported last week.
Second, the names “Ben Conant and Keith Testa” are not both pseudonyms for J.K. Rowling; the famed Harry Potter author has not been ghostwriting the Insiders column, as we reported last week.
Finally, we were way off in our gardening column last week; if you plant ice, you’re not necessarily going to harvest wind. We’ll try to do better next time.
