The Insiders: The Mentos have become the manatee
Speed dating. We’ve all heard of it, we’ve all done it, we’ve all met several of our husbands and wives during it. Today’s cool Concord event is speed dating with a twist – there’s no dating involved at all! What there is is, to quote Keanu Reeves’s character John “Speedy” Speed from the 1994 movie Speed, “speed.” It’s a classic night of speed mentoring presented by the Concord Young Professionals Network.
CYPN has collected 15 of Concord’s top mentor-level movers and shakers together in one room. You want names? You got them! How about Chris Brown, Mayor James Bouley, Steve Duprey, Mary Ellen Jackson, Betsy Gardella, Kate Upton, Jesse Pinkman and many more (and two fewer!). You’ll meet with four of them for 15 minutes apiece – plenty of time to build a lifelong foundation of mentorship! To give the speed mentors (band name or drug wizard: you decide) a chance to get to know you before you arrive, fill out your mentee profile at concordypn.org when you reserve your spot. (Sample question: “Are you a manatee that accidentally went to the wrong website because you’re typing with big ol’ manatee flippers?) The event runs from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at New Hampshire Public Radio (2 Pillsbury St., sixth floor).

Finally, some corrections to errors we made in last week’s columns. First of all, ’90s music superstar Billy Ray Cyrus’s achy breaky heart was not directly caused by his daughter Miley’s performance at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards. Second, the 3-month-old infant in India that is baffling the medical world by repeatedly bursting into flames (this part is actually true!) is not doing so as part of a viral marketing campaign for the Hunger Games sequel. And lastly, the most popular show on cable right now is the reality show about duck hunters called Duck Dynasty, not a reality show about a family who all take dozens of pictures of themselves in the mirror every day called Duckface Dynasty. We’re sorry, and we’ll try to do better next week.
