The Insiders: Singing, dancing and taxes make for one crazy night

We all love movies, television shows and plays. Watching someone assume a role and entertain us is one of life’s great pleasures. If you don’t believe us, then you obviously didn’t see our rendition of Fiddler on the Roof last week. Too bad, it was quite an afternoon in the Insider cubicle.

But the thing we all tend to forget is that all of those great actors/actresses got their start somewhere – like a middle school play perhaps. That’s why you should head over to Rundlett Middle School tonight at 7.

Who knows, maybe a future Academy Award winner will take the stage in the school’s opening night performance of Thoroughly Modern Millie Junior. It’s the first of three performances by the school’s Performance Ensemble Group in the new Activity Room, with the next two at the same time on Friday and Saturday. And here’s a quick hint: There will be plenty of singing.

That’s because it’s a musical. Based on the 1967 film, it tells the story of a small-town girl by the name of Millie Dillmount and her quest to make it in New York City. This version of the Broadway hit is geared toward younger performers, but the stage will certainly be alive and well with the sweet melodies and epic dance moves of some pretty talented kids.

Tickets are $8 and $5 for students and seniors.

Have you been waiting till the last minute to file your taxes? Are you still trying to decide whether to do it yourself or pay the fee and have a professional take care of the number crunching? Well you’re not alone and the good people at New England College Concord want to help. Tonight at 6, Joe DeLuca, a professor of business and accountancy, will hold an informational session at the school’s office at 62 N. Main St., “Should I prepare my own tax return?” The answer you’re looking for should be clear after tonight.
