The Insiders: Get your Wiffle ball fix today at NHTI
At the Insider, we love Wiffle ball. There’s nothing – and we mean nothing – better than the sweet sound of skinny yellow bats crushing hollow plastic balls and the hooting and hollering that goes along with it.
And it just so happens that today is NHTI’s Annual Charity Wiffle Ball Tournament. It’s the 11th straight year the community college has hosted the Wiffle ball extravaganza, and each one has helped a different local family in need. So if you go watch the 14-team tournament, you can also help the family of a 6-year-old girl named Katie, who has survived cancer, undergone two brain surgeries and currently suffers from a rare liver condition called Alagille Syndrome.
While it’s finally starting to feel like spring around here and the main goal is to spend some quality time outside, unfortunately all games will be played indoors as the quad is just not quite ready. There winter goes screwing everything up once again. But it won’t matter, as the Goldie Crocker Wellness Center Gym will be a fine place to watch all the run scoring action. If you’re lucky, you might even catch a foul ball.
Admission to the tournament is by donation, as are all the food sales. So reach deep in those pockets to help make a difference and add to the close to $50,000 that has been raised through the first 10 years. Games start at 9 a.m., and begin on the hour, every hour, until a tournament champion is crowned.
At 2 p.m., author Gerri King will be at Gibson’s Bookstore to discuss and sign her new book, The Duh! Book of Management & Supervision: Dispelling Common Leadership Myths. Who knows, you might just learn the best way to lead your fantasy baseball team.
