The Insiders: Become a space expert – or at least meet one

When we were young, we dreamed of going to space. Floating around in zero gravity without a care in the world seemed like one of the coolest things ever. And it just might be, but unfortunately, our fear of heights and flying in fast moving objects kept us from pursuing a career with NASA. That and alien attacks.

But Lee Morin wasn’t afraid of those things, which along with the fact that he’s probably pretty smart, allowed him to become an astronaut. Today, Morin will be the featured speaker at the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center’s Aerospacefest 2014, talking all about his trip to space and hopefully a chance encounter with E.T. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Doors open at 10:30 a.m. and the days festivities will include weather balloon launches; remote controlled aircrafts and student robotics demos; the premiere of the “To Space and Back” planetarium show; and much more.

The cost is $15, $13 for students and seniors, and $10 for children. Members and children 2 and younger are free.
