The Insiders: It’s an anniversary party and you’re invited

It’s been 40 years since the Pierce Brigade officially saved the Pierce Manse from demolition and opened the estate to the public. And what better way to mark the milestone then with a good ol’ celebration.

For those of you who may not know, Franklin Pierce has a special place in New Hampshire history, since he’s the only U.S. president, 14th overall, from the Granite State. And this is the only home he ever owned and lived in.

So if your busy social calendar is open tonight and you feel like doing a little learning, head on over to the 14 Horseshoe Pond location for an open house at 5:30 p.m. But wait, that’s not even the best part. At 7, the 39th U.S. Army Band-N.H. Army National Guard will serenade the festivities with a concert on the lawn. The evening is free and open to the public.

And at Red River Theatres, there will be a screening of Like Water for Chocolate complete with a talk and chocolate tasting. Cost is $35 for the entire evening or $12 for the movie. Visit redrivertheatres.org for more.
