The Insiders: Catch up with a bunch of your favorite characters, non-Insider staff division, tonight at the Capitol Center
We’re a big fan of mashups, especially when they involve delicious foods. Peanut butter and chocolate, pretzels and chocolate, strawberries and chocolate, dark chocolate and chocolate – we’d eat pretty much any of those (confession: we’re eating most of them right now). But mashups work in other realms of the universe, too, music being the most obvious outlet. But you can swing by the Capitol Center tonight for a mashup of something different – several of your favorite fantasy tales.
Into The Woods, Jr. will be performed tonight at 7 (and tomorrow at 2 and 7 p.m., too) by RB Productions Summer Youth Theatre, and features plenty of characters you know and love. Not us, though. Despite repeated casual attempts (read: outright begging) we weren’t cast in the show. But Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and his beanstalk, and the Witch are all present in what is described as a “whimsical original story.” We’ve always been big fans of Jack and the Beanstalk, but did think it could benefit from a glass slipper or two (three would just be weird).
Of course, that’s not the real plot of Into The Woods, Jr. Instead it is a musical centering on a baker and his wife, who wish to have a child, as well as Cinderella hoping to head to the king’s festival and Jack, who just wishes his cow would produce some milk. The baker and his wife discover that they can’t have a child because of a witch’s curse, setting the stage for, well, whatever happens after that. It’s a quest for curse-breaking and all that good stuff.
Tickets are $12 general admission and can be purchased ahead of time at ccanh.com or by calling 225-1111.
