The Insiders: What if we were Marmaduke Ruggles?
When the Insiders column was first conceived, we pitched the idea of writing it under the pseudonym Marmaduke Ruggles. Seriously, have you ever heard a name cooler than that? Well, it turns out we would have been breaking copyright law, or some kind of law, because Marmaduke Ruggles is the stuffy English butler in Ruggles of Red Gap. Want proof? The movie is showing at Red River Theatres this afternoon at 4 as part of the “Very Funny Comedies From the 1930s” series.
It seems good-old Marmaduke is won in a card game by a pair of Americans (played by Charles Ruggles and Mary Boland) and ends up in a remote western boomtown called Red Gap, Wash. We can only presume hilarity ensues.

And to round out your trio of entertainment options today, the closing ceremonies from the 2014 Olympics will air this evening. The ceremonies will take place earlier in the day – and air live on CBC, if you happen to have access to Canadian television – but will be shown on NBC in primetime at 8:30 p.m.
