The Insiders: Play some games and win a prize at Kiwanis Club Spring Fair

Aren’t giant stuffed animals just the best?

They’re soft, cuddly and can be used as a pillow or passenger in a carpool lane. Who cares that it usually requires spending a ridiculous amount of money to win one that can easily be bought at a local store for a portion of the price. It’s the thrill of winning something that makes you pull dollar bill after dollar bill out of your wallet. Scoring a large whale or monkey – whether it’s by tossing small rings on to a cluster of milk jugs or shooting a basketball through a barely big enough hoop – can earn you king of the fair status.

And tonight is your first opportunity to show off your carnival game skills when the 59th annual Kiwanis Club of Concord Spring Fair opens at Everett Arena. It all begins at 5 p.m. and is just the tip of the iceberg for the four-day event.

In addition to a variety of games where you can win great stuff (and we’re talking about smaller stuffed animals as well), there will be plenty of rides for fairgoers of all ages. And because of our Insider status, we learned that some of the rides geared toward the older crowd will go upside down. If you’re lucky, there might even be a few spiny ones that make you want to stay away from food for a little while.

But we suggest holding off on those until the end. That’s because it will be like food vendors gone wild at the arena featuring in one place all the things your doctor doesn’t want you to eat.

There is no cost for admission, but games and rides do vary in price. As part of the opening night special, you can purchase an unlimited rides wrist band for just $20 good from opening (5 p.m.) to close (10 p.m.), which can be even cheaper with the $3 coupon floating around.

The fair will also be held Friday from 5 to 11 p.m. Saturday, noon to 11 p.m. and Sunday, noon to 6 p.m. On Saturday, there will be a roller derby doubleheader inside the arena for only $10.
