The Insiders: Raptor’s delight

Are you a friend of the Audi? We like to think we are – at least as much as one can be a friend to a building. (We will never forget our formative days playing with our best friend, the tree house.) If you’re one of those folks who shares our love for all buildings great and small, tonight is a great night in Concord!

The Concord City Auditorium’s season-opening gala is tonight at 6. Think food, drink, an arts fair and way more – all capped off by a variety show showcasing the Audi’s upcoming schedule. It’s a gala to end all galas! For information, call 228-2793 or visit theaudi.org.

If your infatuations lean more toward the animal kingdom than the brick-and-mortar, you’re in luck today, too! The SPCA’s annual Walk For the Animals is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Northeast Delta Dental. Aside from the 1- and 3-mile pledged fundraising walks (for information on how to get involved, visit concordspca.org), there is a blessing of the animals, canine contests including best costume, best Frisbee/ball catch and best dancer, refreshments, a pet photo contest and more!

We said a hip-hop, hippie to the hippie, the hip, hip-a-hop, and you don’t stop, a rock it to the bang, bang boogie, say, up jump the boogie, to the rhythm of the boogie, the bird! Those are, of course, the lyrics to the Sugarhill Gang’s seminal 1979 classic “Raptor’s Delight.” If you take as much delight in raptors as Big Bank Hank and the rest of the crew, you should consider boogying on over to Carter Hill Orchard today to take in a firsthand experience like no other. You will watch beautiful birds of prey soar, bank, keen and migrate right in front of your eyes as the New Hampshire Audubon’s raptor release unfolds its wings and takes flight. This is one event that isn’t for the birds (so sorry!). For information, visit nhaudubon.org.
