The Insiders: This mad tea party will have you climbing up the walls
Think of your brain as a fallow row of soil; it’s been churned and tilled, aerated and irrigated, and now it yearns for a seed to take purchase. Allow us to plant that seed and cultivate it into the idea that will help you plan yourself a fun little Saturday! The New Hampshire chapter of the Northeast Organic Farmers’ Association hosts Spring Herb and Garden Day at 10 a.m. The all-day event features breakfast and lunch with local and organic ingredients, and an herbal market fair (calm down, hacky-sackers – HB 621 didn’t pass); as well as a plethora of workshops. Aside from the all-day, intensive workshop with master herbalist Carolyn Kelly, there are hands-on classes in soapmaking, herbal beer brewing, herbal medicines, identifying medicinal herbs in the field and plenty more.
Following the classes is the Mad Hatter’s Seed Swap, Potluck and Tea Tasting party. Bring an organic dish and wear your best Knave of Hearts (or whatever Alice in Wonderland character you prefer) outfit; it might just be the maddest tea party you ever take part in (that doesn’t require you show a birth certificate to get in)!
Registration is $40, $32 for members and $5 for children (the master herbalist all-day workshop is $60 or $52 for members). Online registration is closed, but you can still register at the door. The event is at the New Hampshire Audubon’s McLane Center (84 Silk Farm Road). For more information, call 224-5022.
