The Insiders: This birthday party will have you climbing the walls
We love rock-climbing gyms, but they grow up so fast, don’t they? One day, they’re cute little cuddly collections of colorful routes and the next they’re asking for an allowance and inviting everyone to their first birthday party. Well, Evolution Rock + Fitness turns 1 today, and you are invited to the Evo Birthday Bash starting at 10 a.m.
This is no typical first birthday party, either. There will likely be fewer tantrums (unless you bring a cranky climber with you) but more free stuff – Evo is offering free admission all day, free belay lessons, free Kidzone activities and free aerial yoga, as well as raffles, prizes and other contests. Also, this is our kind of party – instead of cake there will be a chili cook-off and beer from 6 to 8 p.m.
Visit evorock.com or find Evolution Rock + Fitness on Facebook for more information.

Today’s holiday checklist of events is a full slate, too. The Concord City Auditorium is hosting a Holiday Spectacular starting at 1 p.m. and featuring dancing, music, photos with Santa and bakery treats (yum!), with a portion of the proceeds going to the Friendly Kitchen and Concord Dance Academy. The Concord Chorale will be performing “The Song Am I” at South Congregational Church at 3 p.m., and Handel’s Messiah will be performed at St. Paul’s Church at 7 p.m. There is also a Granite State Ringers Bells in Winter holiday concert at 250 Pleasant St. at 3 p.m.
