The Insiders: See ‘Fruitvale Station,’ please

We hate to admit it, readers, but summer is winding down. Why not spend one of the last glorious nights inside a movie theater getting depressed about race relations? Normally, that would sound like a crazy idea, but hear us out. Time is running out to catch Fruitvale Station at Red River Theatres; the excellent new film about the last hours of Oscar Grant, the young black man shot to death by a transit cop back in 2009. The flick garnered Sundance and Cannes awards before the Trayvon Martin shooting; in the wake of that trial, the story has never been more relevant. Fruitvale Station plays at 2:05 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. today; the film runs through Thursday evening. For more information, visit redriverthe

Elsewhere, Business After Hours takes over the Capitol Center from 5:30 to 7 tonight (register at concordnhchamber.com). Also, the Concord Coachmen perform at Presidential Oaks tonight at 6:30 (724-6100 for info).

Finally, some corrections to mistakes we made in last week’s columns. First off, we incorrectly reported that Dr. Sanjay Gupta followed up his position reversal on medicinal marijuana by reversing his position on pizza, Mountain Dew and, like, what are those crispy things that are like, salty? No, not chips. Funyuns? That’s a funny word, Funyuns. Second, Whitey Bulger is a famous Boston mobster whose high-profile trial ended yesterday, not an alias for disgraced mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner. Lastly, “stop-and-frisk” is a controversial New York City crime prevention technique, not an awesome way to end a second date, as we reported. We’ll try to do better next time.
